Pic-spam: Eames and Arthur

The wonderful bofish has done a really interesting post about smart Eames and why he's hot. In the comments his dress sense also came up: there seems to be a trend in fandom to turn him into a badly dressed, sleazy, bum. So let's see if he really is one by taking a look at some picture evidence *g*:

In Mombasa: grey pants, pink shirt, olive/kahki linen jacket and red socks. It takes some confidence for a man to wear either a pink shirt or red socks(unless they want to make a political statement, of course *g*).



I'm biased. I love the outfit he's wearing here. The colours work well for him and he looks rather classy. That's during the planning session and the famous 'kick' scene with Arthur *g*.
Although I do wonder about the chain. He's wearing a wrist-watch so it can't be a pocket-watch, unless he's wearing both?



 






Filming-shots and I guess the best ones of the rather infamous yellow shirt, blue pants and brown jacket combo. Yes, it clashes.
They look as if they are having a lot of fun and I just adore the pics of Tom Hardy and JGL.




On the plane. The best one I could find. He's either wearing all black, or depending on the light a navy-blue suit with a black shirt. Just scrumptious, if you ask me.






Looking rather well put together here. Once again filming shots. Dreamlevel 1.

I might be mistaken, but I think once he's impersonating Browiung he's wearing a darker suit.

These are just because Tom Hardy is so yummy *eg*. More filmimng shots that were unfortunately not part of the actual movie.  









The same with Arthur. Is he truely that anal and always buttoned up and dressed to the nines? Let's take a look:





Formal dinner with Saito. Cobb wears a tie, Arthur actually a bow-tie (love it). On a side-note: I absolutely adore Saito's suite and shirt combination. Very classy and stylish and something very unique.



In Saito's hidden love-nest. Three piece suit in a beigy colour with matching tie and shoes.





I don't remember in which scenes he wore this colour-combination, but I love the colours on him. He doesn't look quite as severe as in some of the other scenes.



In the warehouse when Ariadne comes back. In shirt and tie but with a brown (?) jumper and the shirtsleeves rolled up. Definitely love those earthy colours on him.






The infamous "kick"-scene *g*.  Shirtsleeves rolled up a bit.




In the warehouse, testing the PASIV. Shirtsleeves again rolled up.





In leather. Why isn't there more Badass!Arthur-wearing-leatherjackets in fandom?

What a great collection of images (for both aesthetic reasons and ficcing ones :D). Another outfit of Arthur's that is way hot and slightly relaxed; the one where he goes to pick Cobb from his room in Tokyo. Looks like a brown leather(?) jacket and shirt with open collar (no tie). Yum <3

I know what you mean. It's Also the scene where they encounter Saito in the helicopter. And later on the plane Arthur can be seen in just the shirt with the open collar, no tie, no waistcoat. So we know he likes to travel with a certain amount of comfort when he's not working ;-)

Unfortunately I couldn't find a decent picture or screen-cap of those scenes :-(

Am I the only one who likes Eames fashion sense. I love the Mombasa ensemble. I'm partial to the salmon colored shirt and the cuff links you only get a brief glimpse at when he places his chips on the table. Also, I love the ugly mustard yellow shirt and I think the whole outfit works.

Most of the time I like his fashion sense. He has his very own style and it's rather unique and shows a lot of self-confidence and personality.

I'm partial to the salmon colored shirt and the cuff links you only get a brief glimpse at when he places his chips on the table.

I like the shirt too, it suits him. I guess it's just the combination of light grey, salmon and olive that makes a lot of people wince as it's a bit much. Same with the yellow shirt, blue pants and brown jacket.

One thing I like about the yellow shirt is the unusual collar and the fact that it has short sleeves.

JGL forearms - GUH. JGL, is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see Tom.

I just saw it again on the imax screen (omg awesome). And it seems that Eames' shirt in the airplane is actually a very subtle black-on-black pinstripe pattern. FWIW.

...I may have spent most of this go round staring at the clothes.

Ah, lovely picspam!!! I like Eames' style and I think he's the one with the highest fashion sense of the lot (in the sense that he seems to give most thought to what he's wearing, which colours he picks etc; anyone can dress like Saito! (Well, anyone with money at least.)) Therefore I never quite got that Eames-is-Homer-Simson trope either. Evidence, ppl??!

Oh, thank you for this!!! I love all the shots and your comments are hilarious! I was also thinking (during numerous re-watchings of the movie) about how Arthur wasn't as meticulously dressed all the time and Eames wasn't as badly dressed as they appear to be.

It's a crime, isn't it? I love that he's wearing brown leather too. So often it's like "black leather = badass" but no, Arthur rocks the brown leather and it is amazing. (I didn't even realize I liked that jacket so much until this post.)

I'm biased. I love the outfit he's wearing here. The colours work well for him and he looks rather classy.

Now, that I realized. I am biased with you. I think he looks gorgeous in that outfit. I'm really not a fan of the pink and yellow shirts, but for most of the movie, I was doing the opposite of cringing when he was onscreen.

Fandom has a tendency to take details (like an ugly shirt or a fastidious appearance) and blow them up enormously. It's a fascinating phenomenon, IMO. At the core is something true- I think Arthur is a really careful dresser and Eames is more... whimsical with his choices. But completely uptight and hopeless they are not, IMO. (Funny sometimes, though)
